Mother’s Day Origins
“Did you know that before the brunches, gifts and greeting cards, Mother’s Day was a time for mourning women to remember fallen soldiers and work for peace?” Championed by Ann Reeves Jarvis, a wartime activist who fought for better sanitary conditions and attended to wounded soldiers, the holiday was born out of commemorating the death of her own mother.
